The three-part DC Black Label series kicks off with the first book on November 30, and DC has just released new preview pages from Wonder Woman fan favorite Phil Jimenez.

Books two with the art of Gene Ha and three with the art of Nicola Scott will be released in spring and fall 2022 respectively.

Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Story promises to tell “the whole” story of the Amazons, explore their ancient history, and expand their mythology and the world of Wonder Woman.

“This book is largely a conversation between Phil and I talking about these characters and what makes them resonate today,” says DeConnick. “We wanted to do a Homeric epic with a woman at the center. We took all the language and iconography we’re used to in stories about men as heroes and put women at the center. Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons are like a history book for a young Amazon where she learns the history of her people, from the perspective of her people. “

Here’s a four-page look at Jimenez’s top-level art:

According to DC, thousands of years ago, Queen Hera and the goddesses of the Olympian pantheon were dissatisfied with their male gods, so they implemented a secret plan.

This action led to a new, unique Earth society “capable of wonderful and terrible things”, but it was not a secret for long.

When a desperate woman named Hippolyta met the new Amazons, a series of events occurred that led to all-out war in the skies and “the creation of Earth’s Greatest Guardian!”

Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons # 1 will also feature design pages with Jimenez notes that delve into the various Amazonian tribes in the story, including the Artemis Tribe, the Hestia Tribe, and more as shown below. below.

“What excited me the most about this project is Kelly Sue’s take on mythology,” Jimenez said. “This book also allowed me to rethink the design of the Amazons. I wanted to represent the different types of women around the world. It was important that readers saw themselves somewhere physically represented among these women.”

Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons # 1 features a Jimenez main cover, an Olivier Coipel cover variant, as well as a “Library Faux Leather Design” report variant with gold leaf and director textured treatment DC’s artistic associate, Darran Robinson, which will be available from participating retailers.
